friends, dato and tanseri,


for those small band of people who have followed my tafseer blog from sept 2011, today represent a history of sort: we have completed  tafseer of the whole qur'an.
a 7 year journey....from a handful of diehards, the tafseer blog has a cumulative hits of over a 100k .
...not bad at all for my amanah saham akhirat!!

not bad since listening to tafseer is a lot of work.
even my dear wife and children normally just delete it the moment they received this from me...i know that from the weekly stats!!

starting with surah an naba next week, insyaallah , if allah give us another 7 years of life and clarity of purpose and focus, we will qatam the 'tafseer' another round.

in the process it will give me time to do some 'spring cleaning'; delete some commentators and add new ones as we go along.

as you know, 7 years ago there is not many commentaries in the utube to choose from as it is now..... i always try to be careful with whom i choose to be on the blog, trying to avoid some who have unhealthy 'leanings' unfairly perceived by many who may not be at all correct, political or otherwise etc etc. 

oftentimes though, this cannot be avoided due to the relative dearth of good commentaries especially in bigger surah etc and etc.....

some 'ustazs' who should know better,wrote back to me 'rudely', to say this is 'wahabi', and this and that...just because the commentator had been schooled in jordan, madinah or makkah.
small brained  and small 'heart' ustazs i would say!

some say this chap and that chap is deobandi, sufi  etc and etc...

people with ba in ugama mentality commenting on people with phds and masters!

i cannot run away from the fact that at the rarefied top so called present scholars are either   deobandi or a 'wahabi' or an 'azhari' in their orientation....maturidi or as sunnah wal jamaah  or fiqhul maqarin [ 'comparative fiqh' ],etc etc and etc.

too much of 'they' and 'us'...........

we muslims have the habit of segmentation and over sectarianism in our perspective..avoiding the big picture trying to be close to HIM.

in present day circumstances, i cannot just limit myself to just a pondok in padang pak amat, pasir puteh, kelantan!.......these are only for pak mat nyadaps!!


needless to say i enjoy my work immensely even though doing it in between full time hospital work and the busy routine of an active interventional cardiologist, means i often times have to burn the midnight candle.

from now onwards , insyaallah, it will be easy for me...it is just going to be a cut and paste job.

Surah Maryam,  beautifully  and hauntingly, recited by Shaikh Maher al-Mu'aqily 
This surah starts with the miraculous birth of Isa [jesus] [peace be upon him]. it goes on to mention some other prophets of Islam: Adam, Idris [possibly Enoch], Nuh [Noah], Ibrahim [Abraham], Ishaaq [isaac], Yaqub [Jacob], Isma'il [ishmael], Musa [Moses], Harun [Aaron], Zakariyya [Zachariah], and Yahya [John the Baptish] 
PEACE BE UPON THEM ALL.
It started with the narration of the story of aging Zakariya [peace be upon him] lamenting to Allah on his inability to have a son and heir to carry on the tradition of Islam to the next generation.
Surah Maryam, along with surah Yusuf [ on prophet Joseph ], two of the most beautiful surah in the Qur'an, was recited by Jaafar ibn Muttalib, prophet' uncle, who headed the early Muslim delegation seeking refuge in Christian Abbysinia [ present day Erithrea and Ethiopia ]; refugees from Makkah looking for shelter from  benevolent Christian Abbysinia. The  still unhappy Makkan Quresh shakers and movers, wanting to nip in the bud any possibility of a  growing Muslim community elswhwere ,sent an emissary to seek the audience of  the Christian King appealing for the repatriation all Makkan Muslims back to Makkah. Jaafar, in a moment of brilliance, recited surah Maryam.
The Christian king's 'heart' melted and the Muslims were given a reprieve. The Quresh mission ended in failure.
The King soon later embraced Islam. 
Such was the beauty and appeal of surah Maryam.......

the initial responsibility is to acknowledge  and to know the creator ,then to follow HIS dictates and rules.
at the next higher plane is be close to HIM........
one cannot be close to HIM if one is a school prefect....one need to get beyond the realm of being a 'school prefect'  and join the people of 'mahabbah'.

A'u zubikamin sarri nafsi
[ I seek refuge in Allah from my naf ]
