Surah al Jathiyah.......ayat 25 to ayat 31, shaykh ameen aziz

friends, dato and tansri,

we have grown used to ustaz shamsuri's fiery commentary , but for commentary of ayat 12 and beyond, he has disappeared into thin air! he is no where to be found in 'cyberspace'!
i miss him.

let us listen instead to shaykh ameen aziz commentary of ayat 25 to 31

dr nik isahak

ps : ladies and gentlemen, we take a break from tafseer here for 4 weeks in december..
i am checking on the 'malady or madness' that has enveloped ksa nowadays that lead them
to be fighting wars with fellow muslims on all front; after which i am off to turkey to see             for  myself why
america and the west hate erdogan.......my gut feeling is , when you have the historicity and         pedigree such as the turks, strong economy and strong leadership, that is  when               these'...tards'         hate you most, and try to de-stabilise
       you!

just wanting to check the pulse and auscultate the heart of these two divergent people..
one, shameless, boring and dry with obvious lack of class and another steeped with
history and pedigree, the pedigree of a people who carried their long boat over
mountains, cross the turbulent bhosporus strait and beat the hell out of the romans!

And when Our clear revelations are recited unto them their only argument is that they say: Bring (back) our fathers. then, if ye are truthful. (25) Say (unto them, O Muhammad): Allah giveth life to you, then causeth you to die, then gathereth you unto the Day of Resurrection whereof there is no doubt. But most of mankind know not. (26) And unto Allah belongeth the Sovereignty of the heavens and the earth; and on the day when the Hour riseth, on that day those who follow falsehood will be lost. (27) And thou wilt see each nation crouching, each nation summoned to its record. (And it will be said unto them): This day ye are requited what ye used to do. (28) This Our Book pronounceth against you with truth. Lo! We have caused (all) that ye did to be recorded. (29) Then, as for those who believed and did good works, their Lord will bring them in unto His mercy. That is the evident triumph. (30) And as for those who disbelieved (it will be said unto them): Were not Our revelations recited unto you? But ye were scornful and became a guilty folk. (31)

shaykh ameen aziz, commentary of ayat 25 to ayat 31

26 : 15      ' didnt my qur'an came to you dato'.... but you were too arrogant then....'

Then, even after that, your hearts were hardened and became as rocks, or worse than rocks, for hardness. For indeed there are rocks from out which rivers gush, and indeed there are rocks which split asunder so that water floweth from them. And indeed there are rocks which fall down for the fear of Allah. Allah is not unaware of what ye do. (al baqarah : 74)

Surah al Jathiyah.........commentary by dr daoud al nassimi & ustaz shamsuri

friends, dato and tansri,

a well known dato friend of mine commented the other day, '' why dr nik, you have to be always full of brimstone and fire?''......" can't you be nice and simple like most of us? "

i retorted back to the good dato,

"in actual life i am actually very nice dato. you can ask my nurses at sjmc whether i ever shouted at them over the last 33 years and you will get a resounding NO!

but we are now 2/3rd of the way in the qur'an and heading towards more makkan revelations than madinan, so it is not my wrong doing.....makkan surah are generally explosive, philosophical, oftentimes cynical, and full of fire..."

"surah al jathiyah is one of them. but dont get me wrong dato.
islam is not about preventing people from being creative, millionaires or billionaire, or excellent leaders and rulers. in fact it is the reverse.....it is about excellence; excellence in poverty and in wealth; excellence even when one is  'nothing' and even when one is all powerful and rich."

the stories are too many to narrate here. but let us just quote two narrative out of the many from well known sahih traditions. or may be three, if my memory of the third story does not fail me. i may be off the mark in term of exact wording, pardon me.

during umar's reign as kalifah ar rashidin, a certain jew felt his land in bagdad was wrongly taken  at low value by the then governor of the time to give space for his new istana'a extension.
a common theme in malaysia, especially now.

no amount of complain to 'mpsj' of that city could get any action from the administrators below the governor. the jew  gave up  with the local authorities and decided to travel to madinah to air his objection to the caliph himself.

at  high noon, on reaching the periphery of madinah  he saw a tall, shirtless man, having a siesta away from the hot sun, under the shade of a date tree. the jew woke him up to ask for direction to caliph umar's palace.

" why do you want to see him?......", umar asked. the jew retold his dissatisfaction.

" i am uamr , the caliph", and umar asked him to go collect some bones from a dead camel nearby. he scribbled something and asked the jew to return to baghdad and give the message on the dried bone to his governor in baghdad.

the governor was recalled immediately, pending investigation.......mashaallah!
and the complainant was not even a dato sri or tansri of that time, just an unhappy jew in far away baghdad!

2nd scenario and this must have been 15 to 20 years post nabi.

madinah was shakened by the din and noise of a massive camel train just arriving from syam.
it belonged to billionaire-extraordinaire, abdul rahman bin auf, one of nabi's [ pbuh] close sahabat. the 'caravan train' stretched from one end of madinah to the other end of the city...a 600 something long camel train, bringing goods and goodies from syam.

on hearing the din and the noise mother of the faithful, sayyeditina aisyah lookedout of her window and asked her khadam as to what was the commotion.

" it is abdul rhman bin auf's caravan, madam..", answered the khadam.

"go see him and send my regards to him....and tell him, i want  to remind him about what nabi told him years back...", or something to that effect.

after aisyah's khadam  saw abdul rahman, abdul rahman sat down on the ground and cried unconsolably

" oh no! no ! no!.....i don't want to enter heaven last amongst the sahabat, leaping like a frog..!.i want to be walking like the rest!"

abdul rahman called his  GM and immediately asked him to distribute all the goods and goodies to the have-not of madinah.

....and here in 2017, we have hereditary rulers and political numero unos all across the globe , especially from the muslim hinterland , still unhappy with their worldly loot and wanting more and more.

especially from the muslim hinterland. the rest of the non muslim lands have gone on a better SOP.  and we wonder why after so many years the chinese in malaysia , very few revert to islam!

just the other day i was enjoying a mandi yemeni dish in downtown KL. the restaurant was on the ground floor of a brand new 40 storey corporate building.

omg!
i was told that it belong to one of the junior ministers of the present cabinet , now retired.
he must have saved even when he was not yet in his mother's womb!
let us not ask about his boss...we will get permanent migraine.

i will bore you with a third story.

one very hot summer's day, nabi [ pbuh] had nothing to eat in his house. not even a mussel of food or cool water to even drink. as with the custom of that time, he tied a tightened a rope around his waist with a stone positioned right smack at the stomach region , to reduce his pangs of hunger.

he went out of his house in search of food, and met saydina abu bakar, along the way, also in the same predicament. along the way to the periphery of madinah they met sayyedina umar, also as hungry as them. lo and behold, a sahabat saw the three esteemed individuals and invited them into his house. the sahabat was obviously elated. he served the three luminaries some dried dates and cool water to drink, while he went out to slaughter his kibbash for a proper meal.

"gentlemen, in the yaumiddin we all will be asked and answerable for this pleasure......", nabi[pbuh] retorted.

omg! answerable for some dried dates and several sip of cool water!

we have the whole damn cabinet  and the untouchable upper than the upper crust ,'raping  and reaping the country' high and dry, like an organized gang rape, and everyone of them moving around like  there is no tomorrow!
...and with no shame!
that is the state of 'state islam', in 2017.

gentlemen, with this harrowing intro ,we  can now move on to surah al jathiyah.

first, listen to the beautiful and haunting rendition by qari, shaykh abdul rahman al ossi.
followed up by an overview of the surah by dr daoud al nassimi, in english.
our favourite ustaz shamsuri will do his commentary of the 1st eleven ayat of the surah, as usual in 'bahasa'.

enjoy them.

Before We move On to Surah al Jathiyah.........Still on the subject of Zikr

friends, dato and tansri,

shaykh ninowy from atlanta , georgia, usa,  originally born and breed from aleppo, syria.
formerly an assoc prof in biochemistry and anatomy, and steeped in the oral tradition of the ugama under the tutelage of his late father and many well known scholars  in the tradition, shaykh ninowy is a founder of madina institute based in usa.

syria, before the 'rape' by usa and the allies, even with blemish, carbuncle and all, was then still the centre of learning. now people are bathing and drinking in their own sewer.
thanks to america and the west, with their dirty fingers, planning and forever scheming!

but back to our subject , shaykh ninowy.....

a frequent visitor to our shores, i had the extreme priveledge of meeting him personally some three years back in ipoh, and took ba'yah with the shaykh.

His lineage is traced back to the prophet Muhammad [pbuh], through his grandson Hussein ibn Ali by way of Musa al-Kadhim.  this is the reason why i feel very priveledged...to get ilm from one who has touch the the hand of another, and another , and another, and another...a contigous, unbroken chain of oral tradition, and finally all traced back to rasullallah [pbuh].

'stations of zikr', will be the last instalment on the subject of zikr, after which we will move on to surah al jathiyah....and an appropriate one too as shaykh ninowy is a seasoned'traveler and teacher of the path'.

do enjoy this very profound discourse from a practitioner and tok guru himself!

Before We Move On to Surah al Jathiyah...........'The Power of Zikr'

friends, dato and tansri,

nabi [pbuh] would often tell his companions, "Shall I tell you about the best of deeds, the most pure in the Sight of your Lord, about the one that is of the highest order and is far better for you than spending gold and silver, even better for you than meeting your enemies in the battlefield where you strike at their necks and they at yours?"

The companions replied, "Yes, O Messenger of Allah!"

" zikrullah. "

[    exceprt from "Remembrance of Allah" from sunan al termidzi ;, ibnu majjah; muwata imam malik;, al baihaqi  ]

the natural sequence from knowing oneself, is remembrance, being aware and conscious of allah every moment of our waking life.

an emir, president or sultan who remembers allah throughout his waking life will be more careful when he talks down to the public. he would take into his view, the spectrum of halal and haram and within the halal, the whole gamut of views and the various ijtihad ulama.

his, is no longer a private view, but a conglomeration of views and coming from his mouth must be wisdom. if he finds this rather confusing, then it would be better for him to shut up, rather than reveal his ignorance to public odium.

he would certainly avoid excesses such as building billion rm istana  or excessive lifestlye even from his own funding , let alone from public coffers.

a pm who remembers allah will be more careful not to accidentally take billions of public fund into  his personal account. if he does he better explain.

a neurosurgeun who constantly remembers allah , even while operating on, or ,in and around, people's brain will have allah 'assisting him' in his surgeries in time of dire difficulties, oftentimes than not.

a senior public servant  will keep away from corruption and nepotism.

......and the list can go on and on.
this, my dear dato', friends and tansri, is experiential islam at its best!

listen!

before we move on to surah al jathiyah........'knowing ourselves' : shaykh aleey abdul qadir

"Bismillahi Majreha wa Mursaha inna Robbi la ghafururRohiim" -
(In the name of Allah its sailing and its anchorage. My Lord is Ever Forgiving, Most Merciful..
(Surah Hud:41)

friends , dato and tansri,

shaykh aleey abdul is no stranger to us. a home grown shaykh from penang,
brought up from our pondok/madrasah sysytem of education, he moved on to the west in the 1990's.
he and his family is currently domiciled in london.

in 'knowing ourselves' the good shaykh expounded on ilm, ilm and ilm.
but facts gathering alone is not enough........to be followed by closely by 'experiential islam' [ amal ]married to 'istiqamah'

only then will we be able to sail to 'ya rabbi alamin' and obtain 'deep anchorage'
otherwise, we will be like guinea pigs paddling our way on the threadmill, not moving anyway but 'caged within our ignorance and heedlessness'.

not being aware and concious.
we can go through life, 40,  50, 60, 70 years , or in some, even in their 80's, walking  through life like zombies !

Surah ad Dukhan............closing commentary; .shaykh dr haitham al haddad

friends, dato and tansri,,

in the closing end of surah ad adukhan, allah does away with mild equivocation.

liberals [ in nabi's time they call this group by a different name ], non believers and people on the fence;
all of them have no posterity.
their daily sustainance will be ash sajjaratul zaqqum
a major problem with them in their earthly life is arrogance

for the believers, there will be a sanctuary of bliss.

this unequivocation would not go well with the g25 types, the liberals, etc and etc, but that is surah ad dukhan for you.
not from any small town muftis etc and etc, afraid of their rulers.

Surah ad Dukhan......shaykh dr haitham al haddad, lecture 6; of power, arrogance, greed and zulm

friends, dato and tansri,

the next group of ayat are about kings, sultans, sheikhs, emir and numero uno in general....political or/and hereditary.

peppered all across the globe, mainly now in muslim majority countries, as secular democracies have now shifted several gear up towards accountable  and transparent governance with justice, equality and fraternity.

from timbuktu in the west to ko'diang kedah in the east, from liechenstein in the north to swaziland in the south, these include many players, major and minor shaykhs and emirs and clowns.

none of them can measure up to pharaoh of ancient egypt.
at least in term of absolute power, arrogance, greed and zulm.

in the qur'an  allah directly mentioned pharaoh a record 74 times by name.
qarun , the quintessential billionaire of all time, one would have thought was the father of all arrogance, i think is just mentioned once.
qarun, like most billionaires, past and present, was also arrogant up to a point [ 'i am there because i am qarun, with masive eq and iq, and connectivity, not because of nep or something!...]
but qarun is not a king or sultan.......arrogance arising from just pure wealth without power is nothing to shout about!

you dont believe me , you ask bill gates or steve job....most want to be in the shoes of donald trump!

pharaoh beat nabi yusuf who was mentioned over 70 time.
prophet moses hold the record: over 140 times.

islam abhors arrogance and zulm, and for those in power, tip toeing away from arrogance and zulm, is easier said than done.

the old english saw things differently and coined the adage: ' power corrupts, absolute power corrupt absolutely'
even when you are a wet in between the ears nine year old you are already brought up with the notion that 'you are always right'.
alas, when you reach 60, you land up with the belief that 'you can never be wrong!'

islam exhorts that you , as a ruler, is to be guided always in action and words by revealed religion and hadith and not be 'epileptic' in blurting  out exhortation and rulings, which is fairly revealing of an empty  and secular mind.

and in your business deal, if  just for example, you are bidding for the power business of your own country, under negotiated 'tender' which is really euphemism for state gift, that extra 2 cent per unit electricity your company might be asking for, may be pittance to you, but to the simple raayat it means giving you and your partner an extra 2 billion rm annually , above and beyond the hefty profit you would have made, which is already a lot.

for all intent and purposes, your bid may win the day by virtue of the clout you hold sway.
but think first.......
is it fair ?
is it just?

all across the globe, you guys  and your kinds are snouting your dirty noses and fingers in the same trough at which the ordinary raayat are also all fighting for their daily existence.

you people have special position over the rest of mankind. you are gifted with power, money and more power. you are lords of your kingdoms and whatever come out of your mouth, intelligent or unintelligible, even in 2017 , are rules and orders for the rest to follow.
your mere suggestion is already an order for the raayats.

which bring us to the state of their ugama.
they have to know the whole width and  length of their ugama to be able to rule justly.
oftentimes than not, they are quite complete ignoramus in their ugama and when this is so, when their socalled 'muftis'  and 'handlers' fear them and do not give them proper advice, they are in trouble with allah.

they not only land up in an-nar, but at the bottom-most heap of an-nar!
both themselves and their advisors.

in an earlier slot before surah ad dukhan we hear the story of sultan ibrahim of balksh, a nation state somewhere in iran near iraq, circa 730 ce.
he was always drunk 24/7.

as usual at night he used to retire up in the attic of his istana with a special glass ceiling.
he was woken up by a loud noise up on his roof and lo and behold he saw this chap up on the roof, walking in the middle of the night!

" what are you doing up there on my roof!! "
" i am looking for my camel, tuanku....", said the interloper, obviously drunk.
" on my roof!! you are mad and drunk!! "
" you are more mad and drunk than me tuanku!... looking for allah in your istana! with a bevy   of young ladies holding on  and tugging to your trousers  and zippers, and a coterie of muftis and court jesters saying  'yes  sir!, yes sir! ' to your every whims and fancies! "

sultan ibrahim had his moment of ephiphany and muqarabah.
he went on to become a wandering dervish and forsook his kingdom.

that was ibrahim bin adzam, one of the nost famous and most zuhud sufi saint of his time.

Surah ad Dukhan.........shaykh haitham al haddad, lecture 5

friends, dato and tansri,

listening to the tafseer of  this series  of ayat brought me back to standard three in kota bharu, panggung lido, by the kelantan river, in the early sixties.

cheap matinee of 'the ten commandments', at 45 cent per child, for primary school children.
a 1956 epic movie directed by cecil b demille, starring yul bryner as rameses and charlton heston as moses, and john carradine as aaron.

the movie ended with rameses slowly disappearing in to the sea with his chariot and whole army. that epic battle between  right and wrong, stuck in psyche of most children my age till today.

[ our numero uno now and some non political head of states currently, from timbuktu to  pasir mas, probably  missed this great movie in their childhood days, that is probably why a couple of 2 to 10 billion rm is still small change to them! ...or they never ponder about the qur'an.  too busy chasing the duniya! ]

later in the early 80's i was lucky enough to meet yul bryner in real life, along with his chinese wife coming out of a chinese restaurant around praed street. he drove off in a royal blue merc convertible.
i was there then, doing my posgraduate attachment  in cardiology at st mary's hospital, just around the corner of praed street.

in london, at that time, one cannot be sure into whom one bumped into.
i was hawking around in harrod one day at a book stall and lo and behold there stood before me, mr dracula himself the legendary christopher lee, reading a book in one corner.

'sir, are you the great christopher lee?.... can i shake your hand'...i blurted  out unashamedly.

another place you are bound to cross the whose who in filmdom is hyde park.
i bumped into dustin hoffman playing kite with his young son.

i was not yet into daawah at that time otherwise i would have steered my conversation towards the qur'an.

Surah ad Dukhan........recitation by shaykh salah al bukhatir

friends, dato and tansri,

we finally move on to surah ad dukhan.
first listen to shaykh salah bukhatir's haunting rendition of the surah.
after which we have a choice of listening to the opening commentary in english by shaykh al haddad or if you by now are familiar with ustaz shamsuri, you can listen to him in 'bahasa'.

he , as usual, will start with a short discourse on a hadith or two.

if you still have the stamina, switch course to a wee bit of local political history, some 19 years ago...a malaysian day of infamy: 20 sept 1998

before we move on to surah ad dukhan....loving the prophet: shaykh hamza yusuf

friends, dato and tansri,

1435 years ago the quraish labelled nabi a 'majnun' loving the beloved.
now all the world over, a majority still consider it a 'majnun' to have found and love the beloved.
thing has not change very much.

the rest think they know laily.
the fact is that only majnun knows laila.

let us listen to a short discourse on 'loving the prophet' by shaykh hamza yusuf.
hamza yusuf is a one of the majnun.
on reverting to islam in his late teen, he went to uae to learn arabic and his ugama.
was a part time bilal there in one of the madrasah.

then he travel to mauritania, in the fringe of the desert to join a murabit there in our equivalent of a 'pondok education'.

currently he heads zaytuna institute in california, establishing america's first traditional islamic institution.

may allah bless him with a long and fruitful life , giving his all to islam, insyaallah.

Surah az Zukhruf ...... ayat 74 to ayat 89

friends, dato and tansri,

now we come to the closing end of the surah.

to abu jahal, abu lahab, mughirah et al of makkah & company; the al munafikuns of madinah; the dissenting jews surrounding madinah;
allah does not mince his word, to all these clowns during prophet's time , HE said,
Then bear with them (O Muhammad) and say: Peace. But they will come to know. (89)

of  present day abu jahals, abu lahabs  & company and al munafikuns  of different shapes and persuasions coming under different hues and colours that post modern era allows, post nabi era,  till doomsday,
we muslims also are advised to do likewise, say, 'salam to all, you guys will come to know!'

it is however never too late to say to yes to allah though.
never to late until your soul are about to leave you at the level of your 'halkum'.

change my friends, can be as easy as like waking up in the morning: if you use to wake up on the left side of the bed mostly, try waking up on the right .....or it can be as difficult as moving a mountain.

only if allah wills for you...........everything is possible.
but it has all to come from you.
you first have to change your heart!

dr nik howk

Lo! the guilty are immortal in hell's torment. (74) It is not relaxed for them, and they despair therein. (75) We wronged them not, but they it was who did the wrong. (76) And they cry: O master! Let thy Lord make an end of us. He saith: Lo! here ye must remain. (77) We verily brought the Truth unto you, but ye were, most of you, averse to the Truth. (78) Or do they determine any thing (against the Prophet)? Lo! We (also) are determining. (79) Or deem they that We cannot hear their secret thoughts and private confidences? Nay, but Our envoys, present with them, do record. (80) Say (O Muhammad): If the Beneficent One hath a son, then, I shall be first among the worshippers. (81) Glorified be the Lord of the heavens and the earth, the Lord of the Throne, from that which they ascribe (unto Him)! (82) So let them flounder (in their talk) and play until they meet the Day which they are promised. (83) And He it is Who in the heaven is God, and in the earth God. He is the Wise, the Knower. (84) And blessed be He unto Whom belongeth the Sovereignty of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them, and with Whom is knowledge of the Hour, and unto Whom ye will be returned. (85) And those unto whom they cry instead of Him possess no power of intercession, saving him who beareth witness unto the Truth knowingly. (86) And if thou ask them who created them, they will surely say: Allah. How then are they turned away? (87) And he saith: O my Lord! Lo! these are a folk who believe not. (88) Then bear with them (O Muhammad) and say: Peace. But they will come to know. (89)

Surah az Zukhruf.....ayat 57 to ayat 73

friends, dato and tansri,

a group of non muslim doctors in my hospital asked me 2 weeks ago about the ust zamihan/ muslim compliant dhoby controversy, for their own understanding.
they were interested in the contrarian view as expounded by ustaz zamihan.

i tried to explain to them about qur'anic concept of najis from the muslim perspective, a different concept from hygiene, though also tangentially related and unrelated at the same time.

i explain to them ust zamihan's view could well be a minority view within the spectrum of the faith but still a view which is valid within  fiqh
the discussion was still civil but when i started expanding and  explaining about the concept of najis things went awry.

their perception of 'najis' and hygience cannot be separated, and some of them took it as a personal affront. it was obvious to me that the subject, discussed with non muslims can be difficult because halal, haram, makruh can only be best appreciated if only  you have a believing heart.

a non believing heart cannot fathom why the molecules for pork for example is haram.
to us muslims, haram is haram, halal is halal, makruh is makruh.
the matter of hygiene, personal or otherwise need not come into the picture.
suci dan menyucikan can be hygienic, though not all the time hygienic related.

i get more flaks when i tried to explain that personally to me at least the zamihan/muslim compliant dhoby  is a non issue. star editorial, for reasons only its editorial knows best, started churning the non issue into an issue with racial overtone, and some people went ballastic.

i suspect the star's action has got an economic agenda there, but that is just my suspicion.
the muslim/malay market in malaysia, in 2017 , is no longer miniscule.
muslim/malay market  is 70 %.
it is no longer small as it was 10, 15 years ago.

in their ignorance i suspect they are worried the muslim compliant thing could cascade into bigger things ...just my suspicion.
not entirely impossible since this star  are run by people with people with tauke and tauke related mentality.

and when liberals, who should know their ugama  better ,joined in the fray, things had already become of epileptic proportion.

in the doctor's common room that day i raised more flaks.
i finally gave up.

i now realize how difficult it is to be in the shoes of the ulama'.
if they were not truthful to their ilm, and play to the gallery, they will end up at the bottom most of an nar.
if they are , they face the flak in this earthly existence.

but historically,they are not alone.
imam ahmad hambal, imam hanafi  and many others, were all famously incarcerated by the powers of the day towards the end of their time.
in fact, imam hanafi died in prison.

the position of rulers, al sultan, pm and muftis are more difficult plus plus,  i would reckon.
it is important they get advised by people who really fear allah, and no one else.
they must insist on that, not people who advice them out of fear of them.
this is for their very own salvation in the hereafter.
difficult to find nowadays even amongst muftis, unfortunately.

the common scenario in this boleh land is  numero uno 'melenting first', then ask the fiqhi people under them or senior government servant to rubber stamp what they say, to cover their track.

in governance we lose billions this way, in matters of ugama, they  lose their souls!

in 2017, with internet and connectivity, this is not on!
the raayats now are not simple.....they are free to think and express and have their minds open and cannot be conned easily and subjugated by position or might.

tersalah haribulan, tersalah langkah, if one is in a position of power to legislate or impose on the majority, if wrong decision are made on the basis of ego and emotion rather than ilm and wisdom, one can land at the bottommost of the heap in an nar.

i still maintain if you give me an annual salary of say 10 million rm to be mufti or pm , at this juncture in my life, i will readily reject.

as for sultan, not even this world!

....it is just not worth it juggling the ball between the liberals and the unbelievers on one side and your spiritual conviction on the other, and given the added
push and pull towards political correctness and fear of 'what others would say'.

and if this is further compounded further by personal ignorance and ego, i will find myself in 'deep shit.'

these are difficult occupations even if you have ilm, ilm, ilm and ilm.
without ilm,, it is unthinkable...... a definite catastrophe in the hereafter.
and this matters for me

which reminded me of a well known story about caliph umar alkhattab told and retold with minor variations here and there.

history has recorded the following conversation, which took place between his imperial majesty heraclius, and a muslim captive.
“What sort of palace has your caliph?” heraclius asked.
“of mud”
“and who are his attendants?”
“ beggars and poor people”
“ what tapestry does he sit upon?”
“ justice and uprightness”
“ and what is his throne?”
“ abstinence and wisdom”.
“ and what is his treasure?”
“ the bravest of the Unitarians”.

mashaallah

hasbunallah wa ni' mal Wakeel.
hasbiyallah hula ila hailla huwa alai hi tawakkal tuwa huwa Rabbul arsil Azim.

translated in modern lingo.....
allah is adequate for me .
the rest can go and fly kites!

And when the son of Mary is quoted as an example, behold! the folk laugh out, (57) And say: Are our gods better, or is he? They raise not the objection save for argument. Nay! but they are a contentious folk. (58) He is nothing but a slave on whom We bestowed favour, and We made him a pattern for the Children of Israel. (59) And had We willed We could have set among you angels to be viceroys in the earth. (60) And lo! verily there is knowledge of the Hour. So doubt ye not concerning it, but follow Me. This is the right path. (61) And let not Satan turn you aside. Lo! he is an open enemy for you. (62) When Jesus came with clear proofs (of Allah's Sovereignty), he said: I have come unto you with wisdom, and to make plain some of that concerning which ye differ. So keep your duty to Allah, and obey me. (63) Lo! Allah, He is my Lord and your Lord. So worship Him. This is a right path. (64) But the factions among them differed. Then woe unto those who do wrong from the doom of a painful day. (65) Await they aught save the Hour, that it shall come upon them suddenly, when they know not? (66) Friends on that Day will be foes one to another, save those who kept their duty (to Allah). (67) O My slaves! For you there is no fear this day, nor is it ye who grieve; (68) (Ye) who believed Our revelations and were self-surrendered, (69) Enter the Garden, ye and your wives, to be made glad. (70) Therein are brought round for them trays of gold and goblets, and therein is all that souls desire and eyes find sweet. And ye are immortal therein. (71) This is the Garden which ye are made to inherit because of what ye used to do. (72) Therein for you is fruit in plenty whence to eat. (73) Lo! the guilty are immortal in hell's torment. (74) It is not relaxed for them, and they despair therein. (75)

Surah az Zukhruf........ayat 33 to ayat 56

your excellency,

we move on to ayat 33 to ayat 56.

ustaz shamsuri starts his discourse with a hadith on 'laila haillallah', its connotation and ramification.
in a week of contentious issues troubling us , we leave dr timothy winter for a while and travel up north to the east coast town of kota bharu to listen to ustaz azhar. i love his clarity and exuberance . if you are partial to this, bear in mind that he is not addressing the average ttdi or damansara height crowd. mat rempits are his biggest fans
but that aside , he speak without fear or favour.

that is a hallmark of being an ulama , not the gallery type of muftis that inundated our land nowadays, unfortunately.
advising the wrong advice for those under their charges for the sake of some degree of
'soft landing' and personal popularity and necessary career survival and longevity.....
in not so many words, 'playing to the gallery'.

muftis ,north, south east or west, should not play to the gallery.
you guys will land up at the bottom heap of an nar!

dr nik isahak

Surah az Zukhruf......... ayat 33 to ayat 56

And were it not that mankind would have become one community, We might well have appointed, for those who disbelieve in the Beneficent, roofs of silver for their houses and stairs (of silver) whereby to mount, (33) And for their houses doors (of silver) and couches of silver whereon to recline, (34) And ornaments of gold. Yet all that would have been but a provision of the life of the world. And the Hereafter with your Lord would have been for those who keep from evil. (35) And he whose sight is dim to the remembrance of the Beneficent, We assign unto him a devil who becometh his comrade; (36) And lo! they surely turn them from the way of Allah, and yet they deem that they are rightly guided; (37) Till, when he cometh unto Us, he saith (unto his comrade): Ah, would that between me and thee there were the distance of the two horizons - an evil comrade! (38) And it profiteth you not this day, because ye did wrong, that ye will be sharers in the doom. (39) Canst thou (Muhammad) make the deaf to hear, or canst thou guide the blind or him who is in error manifest? (40) And if We take thee away, We surely shall take vengeance on them, (41) Or (if) We show thee that wherewith We threaten them; for lo! We have complete command of them. (42) So hold thou fast to that which is inspired in thee. Lo! thou art on a right path. (43) And lo! it is in truth a Reminder for thee and for thy folk; and ye will be questioned. (44) And ask those of Our messengers whom We sent before thee: Did We ever appoint gods to be worshipped beside the Beneficent? (45) And verily We sent Moses with Our revelations unto Pharaoh and his chiefs, and he said: I am a messenger of the Lord of the Worlds. (46) But when he brought them Our tokens, behold! they laughed at them. (47) And every token that We showed them was greater than its sister (token), and We grasped them with the torment, that haply they might turn again. (48) And they said: O wizard! Entreat thy Lord for us by the pact that He hath made with thee. Lo! we verily will walk aright. (49) But when We eased them of the torment, behold! they broke their word. (50) And Pharaoh caused a proclamation to be made among his people saying: O my people! Is not mine the sovereignty of Egypt and these rivers flowing under me? Can ye not then discern? (51) I am surely better than this fellow, who is despicable and can hardly make (his meaning) plain! (52) Why, then, have armlets of gold not been set upon him, or angels sent along with him? (53) Thus he persuaded his people to make light (of Moses), and they obeyed him. Lo! they were a wanton folk. (54) So, when they angered Us, We punished them and drowned them every one. (55) And We made them a thing past, and an example for those after (them). (56)

a long , recent [ august 2017 ]ustaz azhar discourse in kota bharu  , but relevant in the face of current public facetiousness, uncalled for political correctness and lack of ilm within even the ulul amri ,who   are supposed to give good advice  to their charges etc and etc

i know ustaz azhar is not popular with the elites . to enjoy him you have to put yourselves as the common people, without 'much false ego' .
also imagine yourself as a kampong chap in kemaman or kuantan, not damansara height or ttdi'.
certainly not g25 or sis.

ustaz azhar is very popular with young people as well as 'mat rempit'. pardon his over exuberance, and you will discover the gem in him.
