put yourselves into the cloak of imam abu hamid al ghazali.
you are the substantive prof of theology at the harvard uni of that time, madrasah al nazimiyyah in baghdad. you could outdebate and out reason anyone on issues of ugama and the sciences. 

you know you were damn good that luminaries from christianity are there in numbers at the back of your lecture hall to listen to you, so that they can bring nuggets and pearls of wisdom back to their 'ummah' back home. such was your excellence.

but when you went home to your family, in the privacy of you home, in the wee hours of most mornings, you felt a nagging existential vacuum.

that was imam al ghazali, at the height of his existential crisis, before he left for the desert of greater syria in search of meanings.

infact it is the highest form of remembrance!
