Surah Al-Kahf [ The Cave ] , 18..Epilogue

Recitation surah al-Kahf by Shaykh Mishari Rashid al-Afasy,

NEARER THE END of the surah Allah says:

Say: Shall We inform you who will be the greatest losers by their works? (103) Those whose effort goeth astray in the life of the world, and yet they reckon that they do good work. (104) Those are they who disbelieve in the revelations of their Lord and in the meeting with Him. Therefor their works are vain, and on the Day of Resurrection We assign no weight to them. (105)

This is followed by a verse referring to the infinite nature of 'the words of God' which contain and express His infinite knowledge and wisdom. God is the Creator who exercises absolute and incontrovertible authority and control over the whole cosmos, deciding every action and determining the outcome and behavior of every single movement in this timeless and infinite world He created. Elsewhere in the Qur'an, we read that: "All that are in the heavens and the earth entreat Him. Every day He exerciseth (universal) power "(al-Rahman: 29). How can anyone master 'the words of God'?

Say: Though the sea became ink for the Words of my Lord, verily the sea would be used up before the words of my Lord were exhausted, even though We brought the like thereof to help. (109)

Since God is One, He is the only resort for help, mercy, and protection and it would be futile to turn elsewhere.

Say: I am only a mortal like you. My Lord inspireth in me that your God is only One God. And whoever hopeth for the meeting with his Lord, let him do righteous work, and make none sharer of the worship due unto his Lord. (110)
