"  Ya Baniy [Oh  my Son ], you will not know the sweetness of iman until you know that what befalls you is not meant to miss you and what missed you is not meant to befall you..."
   ..a senior Companion , on his death-bed,advising his son....quoting from a well-known Prophetic tradition.

THE OTHER ACCOUNT THE SURAH COVERS IS THAT OF ADAM. It begins by giving the reasons for Adam's weakness before Iblis and how he came to be expelled from Paradise. The wool was pulled over Adam's eyes, and his will-power wilted. The Qur'an express it in these words: "And verily We made a covenant of old with Adam, but he forgot, and We found no constancy in him "(115). When God ordered Adam not to eat the fruit of the tree, Adam understood the instruction quite clearly, but as time went by, he began to lose conciousness of them. Consequently, when Iblis, or Satan, said to him: " O Adam! Shall I show thee the tree of immortality and power that wasteth not away? " (120) , Adam's curiosity and desire to eat of the fruit grew stronger. As his defense  crumbled, Adam rushed to eat from the forbidden tree, persuading his wife to do likewise, which lead to their expulsion from Paradise. The Qur'an is very specific here; Adam bears full responsibility for this decision and its outcome, and and his wife's only fault was not to try to deter or prevent him from eating the forbidden fruit. Thus, Adam and his wife forfeited a blissful life in Paradise and were brought to earth to start a new life full of hardship and suffering.

Carelessness  and forgetfulness have become a part of man's nature and a daily occurrence in human behavior. Paradise is therefore reserved for those who are alert and conscious of God, and who are resolute in their resistance against temptation. But God, in His grace and mercy, has allowed for this weakness and provided room for redress and correction. Those who remember will always be offered the chance to make good their misdemeanors, but those who persist in their heedlessness and, " turneth away from remembrance of Me, his will be a narrow life, and I shall bring him blind to the assembly on the Day of Resurrection. "(124}

This life is a period during which man acts and behaves as he chooses, with accountability or answerability deferred to the life hereafter. Nevertheless, God may choose to reward some people during their lifetime in this world.
