taqwa, seems like a magic word in our life.
in the present day to day life of a committed muslim, it percolates down into our daily solah, zikr, fasting, charity and umrah and haj.
but sadly in the average muslim life of today, there is a gross disconnect between our relation with the creator and our relations with his creations. our social ethics are very poor on the average!
right from the very 'untouchable ' top rung individuals who are presidents, dictators and royalties right down to the road sweepers and coolies.
our maktoums, alwaleds, emir, sheikh and sultans, all competing in building billion ringgit palaces like they are never going to die one day and resources are unlimited.
at least one political numero uno and his spouse, that i know of, is currently the world champion in public excesses and gross corruption. every where else within the muslim hinterland, the rest are not doing that badly in the scale of things either.
to make matters worse at least locally here in malaysia even so called ulama and scholars seem to lose their bearing as well.
for scholars at least, keeping quiet and mum is a behaviour , in nabi's time, tantamount to tacit agreement with the deviants.
at the lowest and middle level our collective public ethics are pariah standard, rock bottom at the current world scale. we are the laughing stock of other nations and ugama.
many of us are failed states!
there seems to be an obvious disconnect and incoherence between personal piety and public behaviour.
it is as if ethics, good public ethics i mean, does not exist amongst muslims.
this cannot be far from the truth.
islam is all about excellence in both in the public domain and personal: in behaviour, manners and adab!
our solat, tahajjud, zikr, umrah , hajj, saum and alms are just training ground for excellence in our public life
..
as an obvious example, one can watch the worse of muslims at haj and umrah time.
sadly, our ugama does not translate into our everyday life!

Surah Al-Hujraat
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O ye who believe! Be not forward in the presence of Allah and His messenger, and keep your duty to Allah. Lo! Allah is Hearer, Knower. (1) O ye who believe! Lift not up your voices above the voice of the Prophet, nor shout when speaking to him as ye shout one to another, lest your works be rendered vain while ye perceive not. (2)
