currently with the dichotomy in PAS resulting in a split into tuan guru abdul hadi's incoherrent remnant of whatever remain of the old PAS and PAN, the party of the youmg 'turks'.
this northern east coast state which have been known to be 'serambi makkah' in the past could well fall to Barisan.

that current numero uno is heading for sungai buluh  for long years of 'nasi kawah' in sungai buluh  is a certainty if the majority of the raayat could have their ways.

al hamdullillah, we are in luck this time.
we are spoil for choice.
for ayat 1 and beyond we  have 3 excellent commentaries  to choose from......ustad nouman ali khan in english, ustad shamsuri and ustaz muhammad mustaffa in bahasa. all great guys.

i love them all.
so i will have  'mee goreng mamak'  from irving, usa; and 'nasi kandar' and 'nasi dagang'  specially air flown from ko'diang, kedah and binjal, kota bharu',  all at one go!

they are all excellent.

enjoy them and derive benefit from their sea of knowledge.
all the three of them have their very special gem and pearls for us to dive into even though they are commenting on the same ayat.
that is the nature of true ulama and the nature of qur'an.

on the home front however, on may 9 th , we malaysians dont have much choice....

on the left corner we have an old juggernaut, tdm, who at 93 years old, has the humbling experience of having to face the humility of licking back his saliva  on the floor and all, facing the chap whom he made a minister at the young age of 25 many decades ago and whom he had put on the pedestal over pak lah. the sleeping pak lah, to the agiing tdm now, would have been a much better pm than the pirate and robber he helped put in!. at least the country just continue on sleeping mode rather than 'haemorrhaging to death' as it is now!

yes! , in the right hand corner is a 'bugis warrior' who has impoverished his own country by 50 over billions rm and make sure our anak and cucus keep paying for his 'scatter brained' mistakes and personal excessess, for decades and decades to come.

tdm must be praying for a malay tsunami to happen.
from my personal perspective, he has to pray  a lot more.
and why not?

my neighbour che boer, used to be a ceo. a top flight econs graduate of his time. reads washington post in his free time and made millions in the share market.
he is for the bugis warrior.
in his perception from his limited 'ugama', this is the right thing for him to do.

down the lane in subang jaya , i have two full time professors in our universities. they are also betting for the bugis warrior.
worse still both of them think 1mdb is a western complicity.
a conspiracy to bring down malaysia who is doing excellently.
that is the level of our academicians  and scholars now.

i am not yet talking of all the pa' mat nyadap from kuala ketil ;to padang pa' amat, pasir puteh, kelantan, and at tur, bachok , kelantan; and kuala brang, teganu.
if there is going to be any malay tsunami, there are the prime movers!

they just are interested in BRIM. they dont care whether this 'animal' called  1md eats grass or consume petrol!
50 billion rm in deficit for many decades has little meanings to them.

the 'bugis warrior' dont have to pray very much it seemed.
does he know how to really pray, any way?
all his life he has had every thing delivered on a silver plate, even the present government.

he has several cards to play.
he has several 'jokers' to dispense.

joker number 1:
if he can persuade the highly compliant and skewed election commission people to negate all those candidates in the coming elections using logo which does not belong to their parties, he would  win the election hands down. if any riot or major commotion follows through , he could use joker number 2: the emergency act.

putting malaysia under national operation council governance is better for him than spending the rest of his life eating nasi kawah in sungai buloh.!

if the election commission cannot be persuaded, there is still joker number 3 for him to play around.
sabah and sarawak are already in his pocket.
kelantan and terengganu, marginal states for bn before,thanks to that decrepit and fast dementing tuan guru haji hadi , will now be mince meat for the 'bugis warrior'.

pahang, his home state, is already his by virtue of BRIM and more beyond BRIM  around election time,to dispence around.
remember that cash is power and the bugis warrior has a lot of these goodies at hand.

as for johor, if the warrior can just persuade the 'still wet in between the ears' tmj to just shut up for the time being, will also be his.
remember that johor is the birth place of the party the bugis warrior is representing.
a great party but much tainted now  by him and his refusal to disappear gracefully from the scene when this could have been done gracefully two years ago when some horse trading would have saved everyone's waterface.
'saving waterface', in the malay world, is bigger than life it self!

....and if all of these does not work, and there  is a hung parliement, he can always use joker 2!

if i am a gambling man, for which i am not as my ugama does not allow me to, i would bet on the probability  that we malaysians would have to tolerate this clown for another 5 very long long years.

Allah will always be on the right side, even though the right side now may appear to be wrong from the perspective of your 'cari makan'.

life is not just about 'cari makan'
life my friend is not just about that 'datoship' or 'tansri-ship',  your excellencies.

it is about amr maaruf nahi mungkar.
it is about truth and doing things right on this planet of ours.

friends, dato and tansri,

as an opening gambit to surah at tur let us move back 10 years and visit shaykh ninowy during his much younger days, giving a friday prayer khutbah in his masjid in atlanta, usa.

i count the shaykh as one of my living tok guru having had taken baa'iah under him some 4 years ago in ipoh.
he is a frequent visitor to our shores.


just a digression here about 'moments of stillness', as shaykh hamza yusuf mentioned in his  discourse on imam alghazali in the last slot.

i had a very full day yesterday at the hospital.
a busy morning clinic followed by a quick rush to the masjid for friday prayer , a quick bite of lunch in the lift, then back to the hospital for a quick coronary angiogram on a lady and followed by and angioplasty and stenting on a chairman of our local masjid in subang jaya.

on my way out of the lift  at late evening, just about to catch a very very late asar prayer, i met a senior consultant radiologist , in her exercise pants and t-shirt carrying an exercise mat.

'what are you doing malkit?'

'oh! nik...i just finish a session of yoga on the 6th floor of the mediplex....'

'oh! they have yoga here!..... '

indeed we muslims are very blessed!
we have mental 'yoga' at least 5 times a day!......if we care to add  muraqaba [ always aware about god's presence and oneself being watched all the time ], it'kon[ do the recommended things in the best possible way ie excellence  ] , and ikhlas to our daily routine.

in our 'subha nallah,w al hamdullillah, wala illah haillallah huwallah hu akbar'' 33 times, 100 times, 1000 times or 10,000 times a day we have 'yoga'

we have 'yoga' even in 'atagfirullah' and 'selawat on the nabi'.

we have 'yoga' even in 'allah allah allah....', in 'ya latif ya latif, ya latif..'.
in all of the rest of allah's 99 names!

we just need to change our paradigm.
we can be alone.
we can be very very busy
we can be a sultan or two, even an agong.
we can be a millionaire or by present standard even a billionaire.
or we can be just an mppj worker and minding our business on the street of ampang.
but all of us must at least attempt to be  'people of stillness', as imam ghazali expounded.

and madam and sir....stop complaining about life!
be content with allah!
for you complain about your life, you are not contented with HIM......
with the slot HE gives you!

in less than 4 weeks time we malaysians are going to the poll again. ge 14.
pivotal in this poll is whether there is going to be a malay tsunami which will change the whole landscape of how we perceive and go about  our life in future , or is this going to be 'business as usual'.

i dare put it to you that from my humble perspective, islam has not changed the malay ways of going about life very much in the last 50, 60 years.


if one visit kelantan or kedah, the hinterland of malay muslim region, our kampong and bandar remain 'kotor', rubbish everywhere.
visit pantai cinta berahi or pantai dalam rhu on a saturday evening and you will come to agree with me a 100 %.

at the top end, we have in every state,  the 'untouchable elites' getting their excessive share of wealth replenished every now and then with thousands of hectares of 'balak ' concessions, depleting state and national wealth into the very few hands top end, but also benefiting the honourary 'tengku' wong , lee and tans.

lower down the scale, we have the political elites raping the earth like nobody's business while they can within the limited 5 year short lease, before the next cohort of change who carry carry on the same tradition years in and years out.

in the middle we have bureacrats milking the cows as and when necessary.

at the lowest end we are crippled by 'tidak apathy' and relative ignorance and apoor understanding of our ugama, that criticism of leaders are wrong within the ugama and tantamount to 'mengumpat' which is generally abhorrent.
the concept of amr ma'aruf nahi mungkar in the ugama is over-ride.

our tamaddun islam is to say the least pathetic.
this would be the observation if say an independent scholar from mars were to study us in 2018!

yet just hardly a thousand years ago we have luminaries like umar alkhatab and umar abdul aziz who were supreme examplar of islam at its best!

umar abdul aziz  [ umayyid caliph, circa 717 to 720 ce ] was known to have asked his 'p a' to  whats happ his son, who requested to have an audience with him at the istana in damascus of old, whether he was seeing him on official business or was it personal.

" personal..", was the answer.

umar abdul aziz, the father, stayed back in the huge istana that night, in his room waiting for his son's appointment, lighted just by one candle!

no 'balak concession'
no  free ''20, 30 %  buta money commission over the top for any major federal project or rapid , lrt or mrt project  of that time'', etc and etc and etc.

that is islam at its best!
