friends, dato and tansri,

i have a running argument with a friend of mine who carries a very ' muslim ' name, feels and identifies himself as a muslim bumiputra, but does not feel inclined there is  a ' day after tomorrow ', a day of reckoning.
he professed he does not believe in anything 'alghaib', but if i were to proposed that he is technically  a 'non believer' he vehemently disagreed.

unlike him though, there are thousands of muslims out there, across the globe, mainly from the  super elite class: financial, royal and political .... who live in palatial homes, oftentimes multi million of rm in cost , a couple  or two exceeding  a couple of billions rm....have wardrobes filled with dozens  and  dozens of birkins, pradas and the superbrand etc and etc, hoarded millions and billions of public fund,.... who, if you ask them, would say they are  perfect muslims.

it is as if it is their god-given right to hoard vulgarly and live lives of extreme excesses.....

technically they are muslims but their 'behavior' are symptomatic of a people who are not very confident 100 % that there is a 'day of reckoning'.

they live lives as if there is no future reckoning or accountability.

at the exemplary end of 'zuhudness' and remembrance, we are  yet again reminded of one well known tradition ....one summer hot day in madinah, some 1450 years ago, when nabi strapped a stone to his stomach to relieve his pangs of hunger. there was not a mussel of food in his kitchen, not even water.

he went out of his house in search of food and water, only to meet two dear sahabat of his, abu bakr and umar, in the same dire strait. off they went searching for sustenance until they met another sahabat who invited all three of them into his house.

the three were given some dry dates and cool water to relive their hunger and thirst, while the sahabat went out looking for his kibbash to slaughter  and give his unexpected highly distinguished guests a decent meal.

nabi, while waiting for the meal, alluding to the nikmat obtained from the dry dates and water, said famously,
" we  will all be held accountable for this pleasure...."

so much for  some dry dates and sips of cool water!
while his followers in 2017 immersed themselves with birkins, oneamgedebe, trophy wives, palatial palaces on the hill and that fleet of bentley turbos, mercs  and porsches in the garage!......from illicit income, not theirs!

And Allah it is Who sendeth the winds and they raise a cloud; then We lead it unto a dead land and revive therewith the earth after its death. Such is the Resurrection. (9) Whoso desireth power (should know that) all power belongeth to Allah. Unto Him good words ascend, and the pious deed doth He exalt; but those who plot iniquities, theirs will be an awful doom; and the plotting of such (folk) will come to naught. (10) Allah created you from dust, then from a little fluid, then He made you pairs (the male and female). No female beareth or bringeth forth save with His knowledge. And no-one groweth old who groweth old, nor is aught lessened of his life, but it is recorded in a Book, Lo! that is easy for Allah. (11) And the two seas are not alike: this, fresh, sweet, good to drink, this (other) bitter, salt. And from them both ye eat fresh meat and derive the ornament that ye wear. And thou seest the ship cleaving them with its prow that ye may seek of His bounty, and that haply ye may give thanks. (12).  He maketh the night to pass into the day and He maketh the day to pass into the night. He hath subdued the sun and moon to service. Each runneth unto an appointed term. Such is Allah, your Lord; His is the Sovereignty; and those unto whom ye pray instead of Him own not so much as the white spot on a date-stone. (13) If ye pray unto them they hear not your prayer, and if they heard they could not grant it you. On the Day of Resurrection they will disown association with you. None can inform you like Him Who is Aware. (14) O mankind! Ye are the poor in your relation to Allah. And Allah! He is the Absolute, the Owner of Praise. (15) If He will, He can be rid of you and bring (instead of you) some new creation. (16)           [ translation by pickthal ]
