Surah an- Naml [ The Ants ] , 27...Prologue

Recitation, whole surah ,[ 93 ayat ], by Shaykh Abdul Rahman al-Sudais

THIS SURAH, which was revealed in Makkah, introduces a number of intriguing aspects taken from the animal kingdom, some of which are yet to be discovered by man. The last verse in the surah affirms this fact, saying: " And say: Praise be to Allah Who will show you His portents so that ye shall know them. And thy Lord is not unaware of what ye (mortals) do "(93). The early parts of the surah give the reader glimpse of the fate that will befall both the believers and the unbelievers [ the former being rightfully guided while the latter are destined for ignominy ]. This brief introductory passage is elaborated upon in more detail towards the end of the surah following a review of four episodes taken from the the earlier histories of Moses and the Pharaoh, Solomon and the Queen of Sheba, Thamud, and the people of Lot. The surah also refers briefly to the 'beast' which it says will appear towards the end of time.
