fear and hope is the next station in our journey to god.
a balanced admixture of fear and hope that is.

to the muhsinun and the salik, fear here does not denote fear of the dark; bankruptcy and  poverty; ill health and old age dependency; or at the macro level, fear of the belligerent monarch or dictator.

to them, in this life, it is fear of being distant from god; fear of losing his closeness.
in the next, fear of not being able to see him; the fear of being entirely forgotten for the whole of eternity.
high ideals even the average ordinary muslim cannot comprehend.

hope is an easier quantum to comprehend to the faithful and the non faithful.
this planet is just a small tiny weeny dot in the universe, a very tiny weeny dot in a tiny weeny corner of just one galaxy.
the universe contain at least one hundred billion galaxies!!
trillions and trillions of tiny weeny dots peppering the galaxies and milky ways..

to the agnostics and the atheists, they cannot comprehend why should there be a god asking for acceptance and remembrance from them when  they are just the tiniest of dot within a dot in a tiny weeny corner of a dot within soo many many other dots.
it does not make sense for the necessity of a god, this huge universe.

gasses coming together to form cells.
and cells coalescing together to form multiinuclear cells and finally organism.
from organism , the big leap to monkeys, gazelles and man!!?
this life is just an incidence and accident of time.

but even then they still live in hope.
they hope that their world would just end with their demise on this planet.
so while here 'enjoy and be merry' is their credo.
if things do not go right with them or actually awfully wrong...end the pain with suicide.

to men and women of faith our hope hinges on the preamble to the opening verses of surah al fatihah
and all succeeding surah.
god is most compassionate [ ar rahman], and always compassionate [ar rahim ].
he is also ya wadud, and ya mannan
he is ya ghaniy, ya razak, ya fattah, ya mugni and ya wahab.

the salik and the muhsinun ossilate in their daily life between a  healthy balance of fear and hope.
that is the clever muslim.

Surah al Qamar, 54.....ayat 43 to ayat 55

friends, dato and tansri,

2 days prior to ge14, as  i was driving back from kuala lumpur to kota bharu to cast my vote, i was expecting barisan to sweep terengganu and kelantan. kedah will be returned to barisan in a huge way.
my rationale was simple: PAS and PAN were jostling for the same crowd
while those who voted for barisan would still vote for barisan.

the old tuan guru hj hadi read his people well!
and that 90 million rm he got from ntr for being a potential spoilers was almost wholly spent in these three states and a bite at pahang .
i suspect he had a sixth sense ntr will lose at the national level and thus 'abandon' his other seats in the west coast
he is a cunning political old fox after all despite all the criticism.
we have to concede this.

listening to ustad muhammad mustaffa's 1st half hour commentary  of ayat 43 to 50 made me fully understand tghh's 6th sense.
the people of terengganu, kelantan and kedah want islam
they are not happy with 'separuh separuh'...
they are 'wired' differently from the west coast malays!!

this is a political fact all future politicians wanting to go to putrajaya have to contend.
...the malay muslim hinterland want islam and PAN , in these places, are considered as 'turncoats' to that very ideals.

what are the current facts pakatan harapan, and to a large extend DAP has to contend with if they want to remain in putrajaya come ge15?

.1...pakatan harapan did not win ge14 because of DAP, PKR, PAN or PRIBUMI.
2....people just cannot stomach ntr anymore.
3....people cannot stomach amenu who persist on still having a total blind spot to the excessess of ntr.
4.....people vote on the strenght of tdm coming back to correct the wrongs he did in the past and the gross aberrancies in the current amenu.
5......chinese tsunamis is not important. they are DAP all the time in all elections.  the malays sentiment is the determinant factor, whether you like it or not.

6.... amenu still has a fighting chance in the next ge15 if they change.
but this seems unlikely.
the same actors and actress are still there and collectively they re still in a state of denial.
but pakatan cannot under rate the fact that malay muslims still constitute 65 % of the population.
religion is of prime importance to most of them except perhaps for people like cik citi kasim and her types, which are a minority.

. we trust dsai recognises these fact and he has to do better than his performance he gave the day he was released. if i am tdm on that day, i will have toothache!
he has to use more of his grey mater than rhetorics for which he is very gifted, when he does takeover the reign, insyaallah in 2 years...not earlier.

the future bodes well for PAS as a potential king maker in future impasse between PH and Barisan.
we have to salute the old tok guru for his astute 'siasah politic'.
PH has to treat tghh with respect for their own good.....please.
and the whole nation must give a prayer of thanks to allah for HIS gift in the form of an old 93 tdm who can take all that is thrown to him without betting an eyelid.

even waiting for a full 12 hours for the final investiture!

Surah al Qamar, 54.......Prologue

friends, dato and tan sri,

malayisa is blessed actually.
you throw a musang king seed out of your window it will grow into a durian tree.
yellow oil  and latex exude from the malaysian soil.
gas and petrol gush out from our shores
skilled and a compliant labour is still relatively cheap.

our problem is still poor governance from the elite.....very very poor and porous as well

just take tabung haji, one of the biggest of the biggest glc.
70 to 80 % of the board are political appointees.
when numero uno walks sideway like a crab what can one expect the rest of the flock to do?

but let us leave all the cleaning up to tun dr mahatir, dsai  and their new team.
both of them were not exactly 'clean' before but both of them have had their 'painful period' of awakening and insyaallah 'repentance' as well.

for tdm, allah has given him a long life, long enough for him to have the humbling experience of having to apologise for his past mistakes in governance and his bad choice in backing the wrong candidate for pm.

for dsai insyaallah 11 years of eating 'nasi kawah'  in solitary confinement would have change the man. he was quite 'naughty' when he was in finance building up his own 'war chest'.

now is the time to 'return'for both of them.
and at 7 scores and nine respectively they have not much choice.
unlike najib and the rest of his flock who are still in gross denial state, these two seemed more reasonable.
malaysia is gifted , not with excellent leaders, executive and royal. they are all far from excellence.
the peoples are excellent and peaceful!

we leave politics for now and move on in our tafseer masterclass.


surah al qamar, denoting ''the moon", consisting of 55 ayat, is a Makkan surah.
it refers to an incident when a group of unbelieving quraish challenged nabi to split the moon.
[ the 54th surah as in the qur'an, but the 59th surah as revealed to our nabi in order of sequence.]


" split it did ".
apparent or actual is irrelevant.

modern day data from nasa showed at that exact time, there was a total eclipse of the moon.
thus an apparent 'split'.

close up photos of the moon surface showed indentation circumferentially around the moon, suggesting as evidence of a possible past 'split'.

to me apparent or actual does not really matter.
to the group of unbeliving quraish of that time, it was a 'split' no doubt but even then it did not change hearts.

" this is nothing but pure magic!! ", they surmised arrogantly.

islam does not need science to validate it.
if it does, well and good!
apparent or actual....


we muslims should take this position with respect to science.
only then would we be on firm ground.

your excellency,

we are all fellow travelers  on this planet earth.
correction: technically, we, who have said the shahadah, are all travelers.
those without shahadah are not traveling, until allah open them up to that possibility of taking the shahadah.

a motley group indeed we are.
with varying levels and levels of ghaflah.
on the extreme left of the spectrum , most of us who are running on the threadmill, not going anywhere.

some wayfarers,  like you and me, your excellency, have initially gone quite far ahead in our past lives,but  by virtue of changing circumstances and fortune,have receded far backward because of our  excessive love for the duniya.

we are in limbo, suspended between the pleasures of the flesh, the glittering neons and signage of this duniya, and on the other side of the equation, the incessant reminder of the akhirah.

a great majority in the middle still stuck between heedlessness and aimless, unfocused and inappropriate  ambitions.
.....and the very rarefied select group out there to the very extreme far right....
they are the chaps who are going to fly across the sirat, with the mercy and rahmah of allah , of course!


we join prof anjum yet again in his discourse of ibnu qayyim's opus magnum, madarij as salikin.
we are now moving on to station al taubah.
an important station in our journey to eternity.
too important that prof anjum splits it into two discourse.

at my age and yours , despite our heedlessness, we oftentimes wake up in the wee hours of the morning in cold sweat, move on over the edge of our bed, saying:

'astagfirullah! astagfirullah! omg,  laila hailla anta subha  nakainni kuntuminaz zolimin!'.

alhamdullillah your excellency!
as long as we are in this state, this state of going back and forth, back and forth, like a yo yo, our souls are still salvageable.
insyaallah!

it is a collection of about 15 to 20 ranting and thought of mine over the issue of 'death and dying', well spread over 40 years of medical practice and a life full of barbs, and blessed with pain and pleasure at the same time.

Surah an Najm, 53..........Epilogue

dear rafizi and yab dr wan azizah wan ismail,

just a few days ago i brought my old faithful 35 year old mr toyo, a  toyota landcruiser, an hj47 classic, to my subang jaya 'mechanic under the tree', ah leong.
it was spewing out mountains of white smoke and over consuming  too much water from the radiator..
it was obvious to me the old chap has a blown gasket!
a top overhaul is needed
worse case scenario.....a total engine rebuilt!
a total engine rebuild would mean a big 'hole' in my pocket.

"doc, leave this to me...this is a small problem", retorted ah leong.
i was more interested whether old mr toyo is going to punch a big hole in my pocket.

" doc, our country is in worse shape with 'lubang' everywhere.
when tun stop gst and toll, where is he going to find the money to close all those 'lubang' ?
your truck just need a gasket change...small money to you "

precisely wawi and rafizi.
the country now need a magician!
the only magician available to us now is an old man , 93 of age with over 22 years experience at the helm.
[ i was praying hard that he would not throw a heart attack the day of the investiture. he obviously appeared very fatigued having not slept the last 48 hours and made to wait over 12 hours by the young sultan from my state. this would be worth another blog article but i will forego that. we just have to move on with life despite all these......]

please, please please...stop being small minded and give tdm all the time and space to conjure up some tricks from his old bag to close all 'these lubang'. it is a monumental task , of  which you guys added all together have no experience and clue how to start with.
if you guys persist in being small minded, come next election the malay tsunami may not work to your advantage.
dont under rate kj and his boys' resolve.
they are not used to being in the opposition, and 68 % of the population are still malays.
you guys have  this brief chance at looking good.
MAKE IT WORK.!

there are too many 'lubang' that 'tun' najib left .
some gaping like an open sewer.

Surah an Najm, 53.........ayat 33 to ayat 48

we return  to our tafseer after a brief digression because of election fever locally.

ustad muhammad mustaffa discusses and gave a commentary of ayat 33 to ayat 48. his discourse recorded in masjid binjal, kota bharu some 4 years back.

prof ovamir anjum's discourse on ibnu qayyim's madarij as salikin, discusses the next station after the station of 'awakening' : repentance, al taubah.

from our collective perspective as malaysians, we have given this last group of elected leaders some 10 long years to be self awakened and seek repentance in their words and deeds!
there was none forthcoming!
today we hear mr khairy jamaluddin of the youth wing trying to galvanise support  for change.
for the raayat, who in the majority  for sometime still loves amenu and bn , it is too little and too late.

they failed miserably or rather their top leader failed very very miserably and the rest chose to sink along with him rather than follow the principle of 'amar ma'aruf nahi mungkar' and correct the gross misguidance  and total corruption.

alhamdullillah!, at the last ge 14th, we have thrown them all into the gabbage dump of history.
insyaallah this new cohort of leaders will remain on the straight and narrow path of righteousness.
if they also misjudge us and under estimate our resolve, we will collectively punish them  come the next election.

if we the raayat just know our collective power and the power of 'tsunami', no one is above board.
in this fast moving world of open communication and democratization of information and knowledge, no elite is safe from critical public scrutiny and accountability.

not even royalties mind you.
power and positions of power ,whether in the civil service, political or monarchy is not a blank cheque to misbehave or manipulate.

in post tsunami malaysia of 2018, all institutions at the top end, executive and non executive, have to behave.
there is no sacred cows anymore!

the nabi , who is maksum did minimum 70 as tagfirullah a day, some say 100.
repentance is both for the starters as well as the ones who have arrived!

Surah an Najm.........election fever!!

friends, dato and tansri,

we stop our tafseer on surah an najm for a while and 'kecek2 election'.
in exactly 4 hour time from now malaysian will get their right to elect a new set of leaders or allow  most of the present 'rotten' ones to still continue.
it is 4 am wednesday just now.

driving alone on my way back to 'mengundi' yesterday, taking the long route through teganu, passing through the malay hinterland of temerloh, paka, jerantut, kertih, telaga papan, then into my home state , kelantan ,thru padang pa' amat, [ where the now world famous pa' mat nyadap  stay ], bukit abal , gunung, bachok and pasir puteh, my initial confidence of a malay tsunami sweeping the country to new height slowly but surely began to ebb.
at least in these three east coast states, i do not foresee any significance tsunami.

i got cold sweat.
staying in the comfort of my house in seksyen 19 , subang jaya, and making forays inot politics by attending tdm/pakatan harapan rallies in putrjaya and setiawangsa the other day, i was quite confident of a malay tsunami, which is the prerequisite for change in the political landscape and landmines in malaysia.

now right smack in the malay hinterland i doubt that this will happen.
najib's BRIM and his giving away of public fund without brakes and his scare tactics work very well here!

also thanks to the mentally aging and decrepit tok guru haji hadi who has not only forgotten the excellence of his ugama, and not to mention the near total zero of his knowledge in simple arithmetic and 'siasah' politic', teganu and my home state kelantan are both going to go the barisan way.
pahang will be barisan
that make three states already in najib's pocket. even before the 1st votes are even sealed..

barring the improbable happening, najib, pandi and the lembu gang will not see the lights of the day in a sungai buluh prison.
business  in malaysia will be as usual.

it is a pity.
because for our own survival, and for our children and cucus, all these people and their crowd actually have to go, for a new malaysia.
they have been corrupt to the hilt and now they can rub our noses and say, " see!..what can you do to us!!...nothing!!"

i was hoping way back a year ago the monarchies could help us the raayat.
we know they love bn and ameno specifically  because they have been feeding from the same trough
over more than 50 years or so.

a very unequivocal message from the untouchable though powerless royal houses all in unision  a year ago would have send najib packing home and leave for dubai or maldive rightaway.
many of us the raayat suspect that signal would be strong enough to cascade a revolution amongst the 'dedak eating' 2nd liners and third liners in the cabinet and amenu supreme council

but this was not to be so..

ustad muhammad mustaffa is still very much with us though.

i am beginning to like him very much.
unlike what people think  of kelantan as the 'serambi makkah', from the perspective of getting ilm from the 'masjid', selangor and kuala lumpur, are still the places of choice. probably because of near proximity to centres of excellence like uiam , ukm and univ malaya from the ugama perspective.

ustad muhammad mustaffa is a one off thing from kelantan.
he stands head over heels above the rest.

most of the ustazs giving lectures in the masjid are 'mediocre' compared to him.
it is the same every where else.
quality is a premium and unfortunately 'ugama' attracts the bottom most 2 to 3 % of the bright young punks. the rest want to do law, engineering, accountancy and medicine.
