the audio is a wee bit poor, though.
a long discourse on surah al fath, with the minutiae and the details around the negotiations at hudaybiah.

i like the way he ends his discourse.
we, muslims , should change how we view the world.
we , are from the millah of nabi ibrahim.
our ship is still intact.
the world is our canvas.
we should stop playing victim.
we have a lot to offer this world....






Muhammad is the messenger of Allah. And those with him are hard against the disbelievers and merciful among themselves. Thou (O Muhammad) seest them bowing and falling prostrate (in worship), seeking bounty from Allah and (His) acceptance. The mark of them is on their foreheads from the traces of prostration. Such is their likeness in the Torah and their likeness in the Gospel - like as sown corn that sendeth forth its shoot and strengtheneth it and riseth firm upon its stalk, delighting the sowers - that He may enrage the disbelievers with (the sight of) them. Allah hath promised, unto such of them as believe and do good works, forgiveness and immense reward. (29)

Surah al Fath........ayat 18 to ayat 23

Allah was well pleased with the believers when they swore allegiance unto thee beneath the tree, and He knew what was in their hearts, and He sent down peace of reassurance on them, and hath rewarded them with a near victory; (18) And much booty that they will capture. Allah is ever Mighty, Wise. (19) Allah promiseth you much booty that ye will capture, and hath given you this in advance, and hath withheld men's hands from you, that it may be a token for the believers, and that He may guide you on a right path. (20) And other (gain), which ye have not been able to achieve, Allah will compass it, Allah is Able to do all things. (21) And if those who disbelieve join battle with you they will take to flight, and afterward they will find no protecting friend nor helper. (22) It is the law of Allah which hath taken course aforetime. Thou wilt not find for the law of Allah aught of power to change. (23)

i find most of his discourses very profound, and i am not a nashbandi or a sufi, just a simple muslim.

Surah al Fath; 48........Prologue

friends, dato and tansri,

put your good self in the shoes of the nabi  just immediately post hudaybiah.
all your shahabats were almost on the brink of mutiny.
even  abu bakr was unsure about you. not to mention umar al khattab.

you are riding home on your camel along with a thousand others, all the rest feeling forlorn.
you suddenly feel alone despite HIM.

then the whole surah al fath was revealed to you.
the whole world become brighter again.

oftentimes the parameters on the ground remained all negative.
but what matters is the parameters in the heart!
if you are in line with HIM, you will be ok!

it is about what shade of glass you are wearing........
is it muhammadi? abu jahali?....or worse still, allah forbids!... al munafiki?

a tinge of green in one's life is not harmful.
it is not fashionable , i can very well accept this, your excellency.......but it will do you a lot of good, your excellency, believe me.
given the various push and pull factors tugging at your trousers lately, i do understand the problem involved.

in fact i dare put it to you that , it is, in the final analysis, much much healthier for your 'here' and the 'hereafter'.
those clowns can go and fly kites....it is your posterity that matters!

oftentimes we should get away from the 'noise' of the 'madding crowd', and listen to our soul.
it is a good practice to master this art, especially so in this current world of super information and disinformation age; this current material world.

it is not only good to the soul.
what is good to the soul is also good to the body.
that is what has been borne out to me from over  forty years of medical practice.

' no, no, no, no, no, no!.........there is no god but GOD.  '

the modus operandi is first stillness while in prayer.
then stillness post prayer and before prayer.
the highest level is achieving stillness even  when the world around you are bursting with noise and din!
at that level one is in continuos zikrullah.....sleeps with astagfirullah and selawat on the nabi , and got woken up with astagfurullah.
it  is dowable!

in ugama as in everything else, unlike what the wahabbis like you to believe, there are levels and levels....
it is not monolithic.

friends, dato, tansri, and your excellency,

allah ends HIS divine letter, in surah muhammad, warning the muslims of nabi's time and muslims of today till doomsday, that if you continue to be weak at heart; if you are afraid to give your 100 % to the din ; if you 'banyak sangat songeng'; if you continue to choose pirates and daylight robbers as your leaders and ulama'; if your 'cari makan' is more important than truth and the ugama...... HE will exchange you for some other folk, and they will not be the likes of you.

and before we all leave for this long cny weekend  holidays, i will relate a story attributed to a famous wali, a favourite of mine, sheikul rabiatul adawiyah of basra, iraq [ circa 717- 797 ce ].
there is no sanad, so you can take it or leave it. but it is a nice story to be told and retold over and over.

it is educational. 
it has to do with the zikrullah of 'astagfirullah'

however much we do of this zikr , it is never enough...

upon the death of her husband, after her iddah she had many suitors, all mostly from eligible men of high repute. she repeatedly turned them down. one of them a shaykh, also of high standing asked, 'why?, why?, why?'

'i am  too busy with asking for atonement from allah, ' astagfirullah...' , i don't have time for marriage. my callender is full with ' astagfirullah '

the shaykh still insist....

'ok i will accede to your request if you can guarantee me that when  the angel of death, izrail, come to take my life he will come with mercy rather than with justice'

the shaykh had no answer...

' or when nukal and nakil  come to question me will they be happy with me rather than angry with me? '

the shaykh had no answer.....

Surah Muhammad.........ayat 20 to ayat 23

put your good self in nabi's shoes.

amongst your 'people', amonsgt the ansar, the madinan, were the double-faced al munafikuns.
in the periphery of madinah were the quiet belligerency of the jews.
in the northern westerly direction, not very far away in greater syria, were the romans.

at the time of  badr  and uhud though, they were still not interested in you, as their arch enemies, the fire worshiping zororastrians to your east, were keeping them  very busy.

...to your near south, the idol worshiping quraish under the leadership of abu suffian, abu jahal and abu lahab...... still full of fire and vengeance in their bellies

it is in the time and context that surah muhammad , along with surah at taubah were revealed.
these have become the ammunition and cannon balls for the present day kuffar and enemies of islam to deride us.

And those who believe say: If only a surah were revealed! But when a decisive surah is revealed and war is mentioned therein, thou seest those in whose hearts is a disease looking at thee with the look of men fainting unto death. Therefor woe unto them! (20) Obedience and a civil word. Then, when the matter is determined, if they are loyal to Allah it will be well for them. (21) Would ye then, if ye were given the command, work corruption in the land and sever your ties of kinship? (22) Such are they whom Allah curseth so that He deafeneth them and maketh blind their eyes. (23)

Surah Muhammad.......ayat 16 to ayat 19

your excellency,

we move on to ayat 16 to 19 of surah muhammad.

"laila haillallah",....there is god but GOD,   entails a heart that is not subserviant to man made laws; to donald trump or mr ringgit malaysia or whoever. HE is beyond your 'cari makan'.
the universe, and time itself is HIS creation.

if we get close to HIM, nothing else would bother us, even death itself.

[ 108 : 20 ].......things that negate your aqidah. the hadith from umar.

[ 112 : 25 ].......the khawarij, modern and past

[ 116 : 26 ].......the present day fitnah on the ummah, lack of in depth understanding of ' laila haillallah '.

[ 127 : 35 ]......what if i vote for 'ah hok' ?....an important reminder.

at the end of the day it is still back to ilm, ilm ,ilm and ilm.
read, read, read and don't querrel with your local mosque even if you have a phd  or masters from cambridge or harvard.

in a day and week when all right thinking malaysians can feel seriously despondent and very very disappointed on the 'goings on'  and lack of wisdom in the country with respect to our top institutions,, let us remain sabr and nurse our collective grief and drown our sorrow on the next group of ayat, ayat 10 to ayat 15, this time commentary coming from sister taymiyyah zubair of al magribi institute.

[ maintaining these institutions,  like the judiciary and etc , etc and etc and etc are a big drain on our already depleted resources and proving to be quite useless when it matters most.! everyone from the very top to bottom have to behave appropriately, otherwise even they will be victim  and dinousaurs of this time of superfast communication and information age.]

and if you gentlemen and ladies have the time, move on to prof brown's short exposition and prof tj winter's lenghty and scholarly discourse on sufism.

not many know this , but if not for the sufis, much of maldive, the indian-pakistan subcontinent and the nusantara,  would still be praying to mole hills and idols till now!
the 'stans' of russia  and chechens would still be orthodox christians!

that our islam came from the sufis explain why our particular brand of islam persist.

a 'wahabbi'  good friend and old malay collegian classmate of mine the other day insisted that the rest of the world do not do zikr following the imam after each jemaah prayer and over here, we do. 
this to him is gross 'bidaah'!

i pointed to my friend, who choose to go through life like a horse wearing street blinkers , and i must admit that his choice is his choice, that i look at this  wird stuff post sembahyang jemaah as a blessing! it is a matter of looking beyond the ordinary, beyond the narrow confine of self restricted contraction of minds borne through lack of knowledge and wisdom!.

for all you know this chap's tok guru may just commit to memory 400 to 600 hadiths and regurgitates in public and say this and that as bida'ah, this and that haram!
there are thousands of hadiths out there......soheeh , hasan , gharib, dhaif and maudho'.

despite our populace's relative ignorance in things  ugama and the qur'an, at least by this practice , we have the chance to do collective zikr  and remembrance in every masjid and madrasah in the country five times a day, 7 days a week!

.[.....and who knows that despite so many other negatives in our so called 'cultural traits', we remain fairly intact in terms of mega natural  events like quakes and tsunamis!...and i can just hear even now some of my secular friends chuckling there in the  background already.....  ]

elsewhere the sufis have to convene weekly to their special meeting place , zawiyas and lodges to do just this...

in the alam malikut, angels gather in droves, filling the whole skies up to the heavens around the vicinity of  circles of zikr!
this is hadith soheeh , mind you.

dr maza, dr rozaimi , dr abdullah yasin, ustad fathul bari et al can have their blinkers on if that is what their tok guru from nejd taught them, thank you.....
we are ok with you guys!

Have they not travelled in the land to see the nature of the consequence for those who were before them? Allah wiped them out. And for the disbelievers there will be the like thereof. (10) That is because Allah is patron of those who believe, and because the disbelievers have no patron. (11) Lo! Allah will cause those who believe and do good works to enter Gardens underneath which rivers flow; while those who disbelieve take their comfort in this life and eat even as the cattle eat, and the Fire is their habitation. (12) And how many a township stronger than thy township (O Muhammad) which hath cast thee out, have We destroyed, and they had no helper! (13) Is he who relieth on a clear proof from his Lord like those for whom the evil that they do is beautified while they follow their own lusts? (14) A similitude of the Garden which those who keep their duty (to Allah) are promised: Therein are rivers of water unpolluted, and rivers of milk whereof the flavour changeth not, and rivers of wine delicious to the drinkers, and rivers of clear-run honey; therein for them is every kind of fruit, with pardon from their Lord. (Are those who enjoy all this) like those who are immortal in the Fire and are given boiling water to drink so that it teareth their bowels? (15)

Surah Muhammad
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful

Those who disbelieve and turn (men) from the way of Allah, He rendereth their actions vain. (1) And those who believe and do good works and believe in that which is revealed unto Muhammad - and it is the truth from their Lord - He riddeth them of their ill-deeds and improveth their state. (2) That is because those who disbelieve follow falsehood and because those who believe follow the truth from their Lord. Thus Allah coineth their similitudes for mankind. (3) Now when ye meet in battle those who disbelieve, then it is smiting of the necks until, when ye have routed them, then making fast of bonds; and afterward either grace or ransom till the war lay down its burdens. That (is the ordinance). And if Allah willed He could have punished them (without you) but (thus it is ordained) that He may try some of you by means of others. And those who are slain in the way of Allah, He rendereth not their actions vain. (4) He will guide them and improve their state, (5) And bring them in unto the Garden which He hath made known to them. (6) O ye who believe! If ye help Allah, He will help you and will make your foothold firm. (7) And those who disbelieve, perdition is for them, and He will make their actions vain. (8)

one would have thought that if one were born during nabi's time, one would easily be amongst the 'sahabat' or 'sohbat'. life in the hereafter would have been guaranteed!..with rivers and streams flowing under the palace, and gardens of tulips, roses, gaharus, musang king and all, as wide as the horizon!

ustad nouman ali khan, in his opening gambit of tafseer of surah muhammad, painted a different scenario. an interesting one.

in the early makkan days, your days will be overwhelmed by ostracism  and trials from your very own families and tribe.  your 'cari makan' would been very very difficult. even your life would have been endangered etc and etc.

when you decided to move along with nabi to madinah munawwarah, if you indeed   move, you will be faced by another group of so called 'believers' lead by 'sultan of all al munafikun' ,abdullah bin ubays!

....and if you are madinan, it is not difficult to join the 'sultan' and play along the politics of the day to survive and 'cari makan'. 
the scenario were very persuasive. 
afterall who is the nabi anyway, from a madinan perspective? 

.....''.a man from makkah who claims god is talking to him and you have to follow him and his ways, not a quarter way or half way.......no, no, no!  it is  100 %  of the way! ''

how can you not be an al munafikun?

so if we were to reflect on today's state of affair with us muslims, it is not surprising that even despite the fact that we think we are 1.6 billion and growing, we are really a motley group.

out of turkey's 80 millions or so and 98 % muslim, only 20 to 25 % are practising. the rest want to go back to 'kemalism'!
of indonesia's so called 95 %, they still choose pancasila over shariah.

in malaysia, we are no better.
we choose to 'cari makan' and sleep with the 'devils and the 'pelesits', instead of truth!
even the aging and decrepit tuan  guru haji abdul hadi has lost his bearings, and along the way , his balls!!

in this age of fitna even the nine royal houses have not been immune. 
many people, all mostly clever ones, opined, rightly or wrongly it does not matter now, that , that 'untouchable', 'unmentionable' institution ,  has lost a golden opportunity to put a stamp of relevancy to their continued existence.

in this days and age of superfast information and dis-information, perception is everything.
the arab spring and the whole trouble within the syrian diaspora was ignited by changing perception rather than actual facts and parameters on the ground.
the level of existence in libya, syria, and iraq, now for instance are much worse off than before during muamar alghaddafy time, saddam hussien or asad!

a golden opportunity to just  appear to have some semblance of relevancy has been flouted and wasted!

[  39: 15 ]       the beginning of al munafikun amongst muslims.....abdullah bin ubay was the sultan of all al munafikuns.

[  44: 26  ]     rationalization and 'songeng' amongst al munafikuns. separation between surah and muhammad, does not begin only now but early on during nabi's time....'where is it mentioned in the qur'an? etc etc and etc'.
' this hadith is dhaif , that hadith gharib! ' etc and etc.
'let us forget about all hadith since these causes a lot of confusion. let us just study the qur'an contextually and leave the hadiths!', say the liberal islamists and some professors!
